One Nation, One Prayer: Zimbabwe Unites in Prayer and Fasting

On Saturday, 22 August 2026, believers from across Zimbabwe came together for a powerful National Day of Prayer and Fasting, united by one purpose: to seek God for the nation.

Held at Heritage Village in Harare under the theme “Uniting the Heart of a Nation to Seek God,” the gathering brought together church leaders, intercessors, worshippers and believers from different denominations and backgrounds. For six hours, attention shifted from the challenges facing the nation to the God who holds its future.

The day was marked by heartfelt worship, prayer, fasting and intercession as the Church stood together in the gap for Zimbabwe.

A Church United in Prayer

One of the most significant expressions of the day was the unity of the Body of Christ.

Christian leaders from Zimbabwe and across Africa stood together, demonstrating that prayer has the ability to transcend denominations, ministries and individual church traditions. Among those participating were Bishop Never Muparutsa, President of the Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe; Apostle Langton Gatsi; Pastor Tom Deuschle; Prophetess Memory Matimbire; Archbishop Dr Asa Gurupira; Apostle Linda Gobodo from South Africa; Pastor Hudson Mukunza from Kenya; Pastor Laban Jjumba from Uganda; and many others.

Together with believers gathered in person and those joining from beyond Zimbabwe, they lifted the nation before God with one voice.

It was a visible reminder of the words of Psalm 133:1:

“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!”

Standing in the Gap for Zimbabwe

The National Day of Prayer was more than a gathering. It was a call for believers to take seriously their responsibility to intercede for their nation.

Prayers were lifted for Zimbabwe’s people, families, leaders, communities and future. The gathering created space for reflection, repentance, thanksgiving and renewed hope, recognising that national transformation requires both action and spiritual commitment.

For Global Intercessors, this is at the very heart of our mandate: to stand in the gap for nations and believe God for transformation.

Scripture reminds us in Ezekiel 22:30:

“I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land…”

Every intercessor has a place in that gap.

Prayer Beyond a Single Day

While the National Day of Prayer may have concluded, the responsibility to pray continues.

National prayer cannot be confined to an event, a venue or a single date on the calendar. It must become a lifestyle.

Our communities still need prayer.
Our leaders still need wisdom.
Our families still need strengthening.
Our young people still need hope.
Our nation still needs men and women willing to faithfully stand in the gap.

The National Day of Prayer reminded us of what becomes possible when believers choose unity over division and prayer over despair.

As Global Intercessors, we remain committed to creating spaces where believers can continually intercede for Zimbabwe, Africa and the nations of the world.

Our prayer remains simple but steadfast:

May God heal our land, guide our leaders, strengthen our people and fulfil His purposes for Zimbabwe.

The gathering may be over, but the intercession continues.
